FREE SPEECH AND THE RIGHT TO DISSENT

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American Public."

--Theodore Roosevelt
(President of the United States and a Conservative Republican)

ON A LIGHTER NOTE...

Tonight, when we arrived home from "Trick or Treating" with our granddaughters and their friends, we found that our Kerry/Edward's Sign had been replaced with a Bush/Chaney one.

I burst out laughing at the works of a neighborhood prankster. Just then, a LAPD patrol car drove up. We waved and thanked them for doing their best to make our streets safe for all the little munchkins who were out on this night. And, laughingly told them what had happened. We assured these brave fellows that on Tuesday that we will get them some help.

Of course, we took down the offending sign and put it away.
I am still laughing.

But, did you know that stealing a lawn sign is against the law?
And, infringes on our Constitutional Right to Free Speech?

Just in case any of you readers don't know what the First Amendment says, here it is:

ARTICLE ONE.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

I would have left the Bush sign up, and added a new sign next to it saying "A Bush supporter stole my Kerry sign and replaced it with this one... Is THAT the kind of people you want running our country?"
