I love the internet!
Last night we came home late, but instead of going to bed, I thought would take just a few minutes to look online. I hadn't had a chance to sit at my computer all day.
Just before I was about to sign off, I thought it might be a good idea to check any e-mail messages to this site. This is not my primary e-mail address, and the format still confuses me. I am the only one in my family who is still with AOL, even though there has been much urging to "get with it". But using AOL is easy, and it is user friendly, despite all the problems.
Michael once drew me a diagram of the internet, showing "AOL World" as this distinct entity. Pete still urges me to change, and I am trying to become comfortable with other venues, however, the boys have given up.
They have told Pete to leave me alone about this, because if I have a problem with AOL, I call AOL, not them. AOL has good 24-hour phone and online support, which has come to my rescue many times.
But since I now realize that people actually send me messages at this location, I will have to start checking every day. In truth,I just don't like the "look" of it. The manner in which messages show up is not as pretty. Instructions are not as visual as on AOL. However, this is a good incentive to learn something new!
Well, to get on with my story…. As I said, last night I checked and discovered that voxpopgirl had sent me a detailed e-mail explaining how I can highlight a web site (URL) on my comment section, even though I don’t have a “button” to do so. She is teaching me more basics! :-)
I haven’t read it thoroughly yet, as I need to do that at a time when I can practice and let this old brain absorb the instruction, when there are no distractions. There are things to do today before we head out to South Pasadena watch Zoe play in her second soccer match of the season.
But THANK YOU voxpopgirl for your kind assistance! I think I may have met my first internet friend! Who would have thought? There are just so many really nice people in the world. Just goes to show that we are all connected!
Speaking of people….
This morning I got another pleasant surprise. Our neighbor, who lives directly across the street, came over to give us something. It was an invitation to her daughter’s wedding in October.
These are good neighbors whom I have always wanted to get to know better. They originally came from Southern India and are Christian. They speak a dialect of an the Indian language when they entertain their old friends. They always seem to be having a good time, and it seems like a congenial group.
Their daughter is studying to be a doctor in Hungary and is rarely here in the US. But in October, she will come back with her Spanish fiancée (also a doctor) to be married. The couple will be married in a local church by their long time minister from Montebello. There will be many Indian elements added to the Christian Ceremony. I am really looking forward to the celebrations, and thrilled to have been included.
I love weddings.
Judi,
i haven't been online for a bit of time because of a personal family matter and when i just finally got the strength to give it a go and get back online, i was surprised to read your generous post... thank-you and think nothing of it -- despite some of us being half way around the world or just around the corner, it never ceases to amaze me how the internet has managed to serve as a conduit to bring people together that might other wise have never met or stopped to wave hullo as they passed each other on the street they both happen to live on.
The art of letter writing has in some small way been brought back to the forefront with the advent of this technology and serves to prove that it's a small interconnected world after all!

dug the Republican Lie Detector link in your latest post, btw.
Posted by: voxpopgirl at September 19, 2003 6:58 PMWhat does btw mean? Were your ears itching a while ago Lisa? Tonight a young man in our meditation group asked how my blog was going. I told him about how you came to my aide. He said that it's true. You meet great people on the internet!
Posted by: Mom at September 19, 2003 10:21 PMJudi, "btw" means, "by the way" as in,
btw Judi, how long have you been going to a meditation group?
funny you mentioned it, cuz i've actually been thinking of taking a meditation class, and am going to start looking for a good one around my 'hood here in Toronto. is it strictly meditation or is there any yoga involved?
Posted by: voxpopgirl at September 20, 2003 5:12 PMThanks Lisa, I’ve put the meaning of ‘btw’ on a post-it on my monitor.
To answer your question:
We have been going to meditation since the late eighties. I had been searching for a while, and always hoped I might find others that shared the same direction. By chance, the mom of one of Matt’s friend’s friends came to visit me when she heard that I was on crutches due to an injury. Something I said made her ask: “Do you believe that”? When I answered in the affirmative, she started to tell me about her Spiritual Mother and the group that met regularly each Friday night.
I couldn’t walk at that time, but I just about leapt over the table to ask “Can I come?”
She said that she would have to check, as the group was careful as to whom they invited.
We do not proselytize, and only those are invited to join us who are truly searching in the same direction. We want to protect the privacy of those who share and especially our Spiritual Mother.
But back to that time…. A few nights later two of the men from our group came over with my friend to talk with Pete and me. It turned out that Pete had once worked with the man who had opened his home for meditation. After a long and thoughtful discussion we were invited to join them on Friday nights.
It was many months before we were allowed to meet the woman we called Divine Mother. She came to LA about four times a year. When we did finally meet her, she talked to us both, and arranged to give us our Mantra. We had no idea that this was such a momentous occasion at the time.
It was. And, we have walked this path for many years since that time. Yoga exercise is not part of our practice but many do Yoga individually.
Marvelous, what a blog it is! This blog provides useful data to us, keep it up. key2
